David Bowie Is: Brooklyn, 2018
In 2018, Janine and I made the trip to Brooklyn to experience the David Bowie Is exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum — a show I had first seen in London back in 2013. Photography wasn’t allowed inside, but the memories remain vivid: walking among Bowie’s costumes, sketches, and artifacts felt like stepping into his creative universe all over again. This time, new treasures were on display — including the hauntingly beautiful puppet from his 1980 Saturday Night Liveperformance and the intimate Blackstar notebook. Revisiting the exhibition with Janine made it even more special, equal parts inspiring and deeply emotional.
Facing Bowie, back turned to the world — a quiet witness to the words David Bowie Is, and all that he continues to be.
Nearly four hours inside David Bowie Is felt like stepping through his many worlds — each more vivid and moving than the last. Afterwards, Bowie-inspired cocktails and a special menu kept the magic alive a little longer. Check out more about the exhibition on the Brooklyn Museum’s site:
