David Bowery

While in town for the David Bowie Is exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum, I made a special stop at the Broadway–Lafayette station — or as fans lovingly called it, “David Bowery.” Joining me was Lorraine Massey, the original Curly Girl and founder of DevaCurl, to take in the striking station takeover.
Murals, photos, and lyrics filled the space, transforming the subway into a living tribute just steps from Bowie’s former SoHo home. They even released limited-edition MetroCards to mark the moment — though sadly I never managed to get my hands on one.

Brooklyn Museum — David Bowie Is
That same weekend, I went with Janine to see David Bowie Is at the Brooklyn Museum. It was the closing chapter of a show I’d first caught at the V&A in London back in 2013 — the exhibition had spent five years touring the world since, and Brooklyn was its very last stop.
