The Sound + Vision of Bowie: A Bowie Birthday Weekend to Remember

My 6th Year, Our Ever-Growing Bowie Family

What started years ago as a simple New York weekend with just Janine and me has now become one of my favorite annual traditions — a full Bowie family reunion.

This year marked my 6th time attending our Bowie weekend in NYC, and our little duo has grown into a 10–12 person group of incredible friends. Most of us met through Bowie conventions over the years, and now we make a whole weekend of it: shopping, great dinners, laughter, music, and celebrating the man who brought us all together.

We always carve out time to enjoy the city itself, and this year I finally visited the Museum of the City of New York, which was such a treat. There’s something special about experiencing Bowie through the lens of the city that influenced so much of his work.

Of course, no Bowie weekend would be complete without late-night karaoke with the gang — equal parts chaotic, hilarious, and perfect. 🎤✨

The highlight, as always, was attending two Cutting Room shows — one on Saturday and another on Sunday. The band was, without a doubt, the best I’ve ever heard them. Tight, powerful, emotional, and truly honoring Bowie’s legacy in the most beautiful way.

And it’s always a pleasure getting to chat with Donnie after the shows — those conversations never get old.

This weekend felt especially meaningful because it marked the 10th anniversary of David Bowie’s passing. Being surrounded by people who share the same love, respect, and admiration for him made the experience even more powerful. His music continues to connect us, inspire us, and bring us together — year after year.

Here’s to the friendships, the memories, the music, and to Bowie — forever our guiding star.
